We chose to dress our model in a flowing dress that has many fringes and a sweetheart neckline. We didn't just choose these elements because it is trendy, we chose it to represent an important quality, love. The flowiness of the dress shows the growth process of love, and the happiness love brings. Just like in ספר החינוך says, if you do to your friend what you want done to yourself, there will be peace among us all. שורש המצוה ידוע, כי כמו שיעשה הוא בחבירו כן יעשה חבירו בו, ובזה יהיה שלום בין הבריות. Each fringe represents another trait of love. When they all come together, they represent unity, and create the deeper meaning of love. Love embodies happiness, appreciation, and good feelings. We worked tirelessly to symbolize it in our dress. The dress flows and extends in its’ length in order to represent that love has no limits and there is always room for growth. ספר החינוך מצוה רמ"ג: מצות אהבת ישראל- לאהוב כל אחד מישראל אהבת נפש The sweetheart neckline should remind you to be a sweetheart, like רבי עקיבא stated “ואהבת לרעך כמוך -זה כלל גדול בתורה”; you must do to your friend as you would do to yourself. The clutch is embroidered with “Zero is Not a Size”. Just as love has no limits, you should love your body and all of its flaws as well. Love the way you look, and most importantly be comfortable with your size. Even more so, you should love your friends the same way you love yourself. רמב"ן: אלא מצות התורה שיאהב חבירו בכל ענין כאשר יאהב את נפשו בכל הטוב You build your relationships up from zero, but must always be based upon respect, care and love. You should wear the bag with pride, and remember to show love to all you meet. One fringe on the dress represents the idea that love is unconditional, there are no expectations or limitations set. To love someone unconditionally is difficult, and most haven’t conquered that task successfully. However, true love is loving someone without trying to change them. רמב"ם הלכות דעות פרק ו: מצוה על כל אדם לאהוב את כל אחד ואחד מישראל כגופו Another fringe represents that love means that there may be times where putting other people’s needs before your own is necessary. It’s impossible to love someone just as you love yourself, therefore, you must show your friend love. You have to go above and beyond for your friend. If you love them so much that you pray for them, and wish good for them. רבי עקיבא writes, you’re showing love to your friend. רמב"ן: ויתכן בעבור שלא אמר "ואהבת את רעך כמוך", והשוה אותם במלת "לרעך", וכן ואהבת לו כמוך... Real love is when you care about other people’s happiness, and will go to great lengths to make people feel valued. The ספר החינוך says, if you love your friend you’re not going to do something bad to them. שורש המצוה ידוע, כי כמו שיעשה הוא בחבריו כן יעשה חבירו בו, ובזה יהיה שלום בין הבריות״. A fringe represents that when you show love, you understand and accept differences. Real love lets people be different, and when people truly love one another, they accept their differences. Lastly, another fringe on this dress represents the trait of trust. Trust is the most basic foundation of true love. Loyalty in relationships brings love and unity, and with that love we wouldn't hurt one another. Being unified helps love grow and strengthen. Therefore, the ספר החינוך says that we must do to others what you would want done to you, and you shouldn’t do to others what you wouldn’t want them to do to you. ״ דעלך סני לחברך לא תעביד.״ |

A thick sweater with a long neckline is paired with a dark red leather skirt that is asymmetrical.
The thick sweater material is hiding the hatred that is underneath all the layers. הלכות דעות states that you can’t hate your friend in your heart. There are two different types of שנאה. One type of שנאה is displayed via actions and expressing your hatred towards them , שנאה בפועל. The other type of שנאה ,שנאה ,שבלב is hating someone in your heart and not unleashing that deadly dragon.
כל השונא אחד מישראל עובר בלא תעשה שנאמר "לא תשנא את אחיך בלבבך". ויש שני חלקים בשנאה, ויש שני חלקים בשנאה, יש שנאה הלב שמרגיש רחוק ושנאה מחבירו. ויש שנאה בפועל שעושה דברים רעים לחבירו או מונע ממנו טובה מחמת שנאה. ושניהם אסורים
Rashbam explains that you can't hate a fellow יהודי in your heart. And what's even worse than hating your brother in your heart, is pretending to love him.
״לא תשנא את אחיך בלבבך.אם גמלך רעה לא תתראה לפניו כאוהב״
They do not know that you hate them because you don’t express it. This is the worst type of hatred because it can lead to even worse actions such as לשון הרע. To represent this type of שנאה we made a long sleeve black turtle neck shirt. It is completely black all the way up to the neckline, and down to the hands to show that the hatred is being hidden in your heart. The dark black color is hiding all of your skin, just like you are holding in your negative feelings.
Hatred is one of the worst attributes, מדה נמוסה. You have to steep to a very low moral level to hate someone. The long and low neckline equates to the low level that one has to go. The skirt is dark red representing the anger and frustration that comes with bottling up the hatred.
רמבם הלכות דעות states that you can’t love a חכם and hate the student or hate the חכם and love the student.
לא יאמר אדם אהוב את החכמים ושנא את התלמידים, אהוב את התלמידים ושנא את עמי הארץ, אלא אהוב את כולם ושנא את האפיקורס והמסתים והמדיחים והמסורות.
You have to love all Jews equally. The imbalance in the length of the skirt is showing that by hating someone they are not loving all Jews equally like the תורה tells us to.

The trait of stubbornness comes along with hatred because you refuse to remove the שנאה from your heart. We drew a light pink, flowy and wavy shirt. It is paired with a long burgundy leather skirt. The outfit is completed with a great hat.
In ספר ויקרא it states לא תשנא את אחיך בלבבך הוכח תוכיח את עמיתך ולא תשא עליו חטא This פסוק means that if you don't hate your friend, you will rebuke them in order to show them their wrongdoings but not in an embarrassing manner. This shirt represents when you are rebuking your friend you must do it in a soft and kind demeanor. The material of this shirt is silk because it is very smooth and soft. The pink hue represents a soft tone that must be used. According to the רמב”ם, you must speak בלשון רכה. רמב"ם הלכות דעות פרק ו: המוכיח את חבירו בין בדברים שבינו לבינו, בין בדברים שבינו לבין המקום, צריך להוכיחו בינו ובין עצמו, וידבר לו בנחת ובלשון רכה ויודיעו שאינו אומר לו אלא לטובתו. The grey hat represents privacy to show that you should only rebuke someone in private so not to embarrass them. This is the only way you will be able to get through to a person when rebuking and trying to help. The very long burgundy straight skirt is to represent that you must continuously rebuke your friend, as we learn from the words “הוכח תוכח”. The skirt goes all the way to floor to show the continuity that even if they don't listen you should keep rebuking because it is for their own benefit. We also want the person to be the best possible person they could be so that is why we need to help them! רמב”ם הלכות דעות הלכה ז: ״הרואה חבירו שחטא או שהלך בדרך לא טובה מצוה להחזירו למוטב ולהודיעו חוטא על עצמו במעשיו הרעים שנאמר הוכיח תוכיח את עמיתך. ״ The dark burgundy color represents how you have to be stubborn and not give up on your friend. You have an obligation to rebuke your friend and show them the correct דרך. If they become agitated and are beginning to show signs of aggression הלכה allows you to end your rebuke. מסכת ערכין דף טז: עד היכן תוכחה? רב אמר, עד הכאה. ושמואל אומר: עד קללה. ורבי יוחנן אמר: עד נזיפה. The material of this skirt is leather, which doesn’t fade over time. There needs to be consistency when giving rebuke. There is a slit in the skirt, leaving open space for error. We drew a velvet hat, a black choker, sunglasses, and a white button down shirt with red buttons and long jean skirt to represent the laws of giving תוכחה.
Embarrassing someone is equal to killing them according to the תורה. When you stroke the soft velvet of the hat, you should remember to rebuke in a soft manner. The hat covers the person’s eyes to show the insecurity one feels when being rebuked, and cautions the rebuker to be sensitive. The white hat matches the white face of the person if they should get embarrassed while being rebuked. A black leather choker is similar to dog’s collar, which is used to restrict him and limit his freedom. Leather is an expensive material, made out of wild animal skin. The tough leather material matched with the black hue equates to the inner death that occurs when one is embarrassed. מסכת בבא מציעא -״כל המלבין את פני חבירו ברבים כאלו שופך דמים ״. The model is hiding behind her glasses because of the shame that she is facing. No one wants to be seen after being ridiculed! The white and red buttons going down the shirt both represent the color of discomfort When one is mortified, they lose color, turning them into a ghostly white face. Or, it could be that one’s face turns bright red. Either way, no matter big or small, child or adult, you cannot embarrass anybody, as the רמב״ם says,” לפיכך צריך אדם להזהר שלא לבייש חבירו ברבים בין קטן בין גדול, ולא יקרא לו בשם שהוא בוש ממנו. ״. Lastly, we drew a long jean skirt. Jean is durable material. If you are not careful with your words, both of you may be put into a position of distress and may not be able to endure the rebuke. This jean skirt is short in the front and long in the back also to represent that no matter big or small, short or long you must respect someone and be sensitive towards their feeling by trying not to embarrass them. There are fringes on this skirt because fringes are spiky, representing a knife in a murder scene. If you kill someone or embarrass your friend in public then you won't have a part in עולם הבא since it is like killing. It states, “מתתי בחנק, ויש לו חלק לעולם הבא אבל המלבין את פני חבירו ברבים - אין לו חלק לעולם הבא״. |
